Captain Cigarrr was the collaborative result of 4 artist and 2 programmers in a timespan of 3 months in Unity.
My contribution was primarily VFX based, I was in charge of drawing up and making VFX that fit the style and speed of the game. Apart from the VFX, I created a few 3D assets too. Among them are the viking enemy ships, the twin bosses and various environment pieces like rocks, the animated aurora borealis and volumetric clouds.
It was challenging to create the visuals we wanted with as little time as possible, going for an atlas-based texturing system and a low poly count. This helped designing the VFX, allowing for them to fit the pace of the game without overwhelming players with visuals.
